We recommend choosing a reputable provider and comparing options online. Many credit cards also offer coverage for short trips, so it’s worth checking with your bank before booking.

Here’s a simple breakdown of levels:
Beginner:
You’ve never surfed or only a few times. You’re still learning the basics like paddling, popping up, and balancing on the board.Progressor:
You have the fundamentals and are starting to catch green waves. You’re working on refining your technique and learning to trim along the wave.Intermediate:
Comfortable in the water, you can manage bigger sets, pop up smoothly, and ride green waves confidently. You’re starting to make small turns and experiment with pumping.Advanced:
You’re confident on a variety of boards and can surf independently in most conditions. You’re ready to focus on advanced skills like bottom/top turns, cutbacks, or cross-stepping.We’ll make sure everyone is grouped according to their level so you can learn safely, progress, and have fun.
-
We love that you’re excited to get in the water! During the retreat, each surf lesson will last 90–120 minutes, timed each day for the best conditions—tides, wind, and waves are all considered so you get the most out of each session. We recommend focusing on one high-quality session per day rather than trying to squeeze in multiple shorter ones.
If you still want extra time in the ocean, you’re welcome to surf on your own outside the scheduled lessons. Please note that these sessions are unsupervised, board hire is extra, and you should only go out if you feel confident and have assessed the conditions safely.

Our retreat takes place in March, a time of year we’ve found offers great waves and comfortable weather. That said, the ocean is unpredictable, and conditions can change quickly due to swell, wind, and weather. While it’s very rare that we can’t surf at all, we cannot guarantee perfect waves every session.
To make the most of your time, our schedule includes a day trip or “day off”, which we can plan around the surf conditions as a midweek rest or adventure. On the rare occasion that surf is limited for more than a day, we’ll do our best to make it up with an extra session so you don’t miss out on your ocean time.
-
Surf lesson times are planned a day in advance, based on tides and current conditions to make sure you get the best experience. Once the surf schedule is set, we arrange the other activities around it. We’ll keep you updated daily with any changes, so you always know what’s happening—welcome to the flexible, go-with-the-flow life of a surfer!
